About the EDSP Walkthrough
This session gives schools an introduction to the Electronic Developmental Support Passport (EDSP), a school-based tool for identifying and supporting the developmental needs of children and young people. It sets out the rationale behind the EDSP’s development, and its aims and objectives, ahead of full staff training.
Participants will learn what the EDSP is (and just as importantly, what it isn’t), how it works in practice, and the difference it can make across a school community. The session covers how the tool draws on both staff and parent/carer perspectives to spot needs that might otherwise go unnoticed, helping schools identify developmental and neurodiversity-related needs earlier and more consistently.
We’ll walk through the benefits for everyone involved: for schools, a whole-class picture of need, free CPD, and instant, evidence-based resources; for pupils, individualised recommendations that inform everyday teaching and support; for parents and carers, clearer communication and a shared understanding of their child’s needs.
As with the training itself, this session is clear on what the EDSP does not do: it does not classify a child as neurodiverse or neurodivergent, does not determine SEN register status, and does not replace formal diagnosis. The Walkthrough is designed to give schools a clear, jargon-free understanding of the EDSP as a needs-led, evidence-based support tool, before staff move on to the hands-on training.
By the end of the session, attendees will understand what the EDSP is, why it was developed, what it aims to achieve, and how it can benefit their school, staff, pupils and families.
