Play a leading role in improving life chances for children and young people
The Education Alliance for Life Chances (EALC) is seeking three new Trustees to join the Board at a pivotal moment as we deliver our 2026–2029 Strategic Plan.
EALC exists to ensure that every child in Bradford has genuine, equitable life chances. We act as a backbone organisation, connecting schools, health services, children’s social care, policing, and the voluntary and community sector — strengthening the systems that shape children’s education, health, safety, and long-term wellbeing.
This is a unique opportunity to contribute to system-wide change and support a growing organisation driving meaningful impact across Bradford.
About the Role
As a Trustee, you will provide strategic oversight, ensure strong governance, and support the organisation’s long-term sustainability.
You will work alongside the Director and Partnership Board to guide delivery of EALC’s priorities across systems, place, and schools, helping to shape collaboration across sectors and improve outcomes for children and young people.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Governance
- Provide strategic direction and oversight of EALC’s work
- Ensure effective use of resources and strong financial stewardship
- Monitor performance against the 2026–2029 Strategic Plan
- Uphold governance, safeguarding, and compliance standards
Partnership & Influence
- Support cross-sector collaboration across education, health, and community systems
- Act as an ambassador for EALC across the Bradford district
- Champion evidence-led practice and system change
Organisational Development
- Contribute to fundraising and long-term sustainability
- Support organisational growth and development
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
- Experience of charity trusteeship or governance (or equivalent)
- Commitment to improving outcomes for children and young people
- Strategic thinking, sound judgement, and integrity
- Willingness to act as an ambassador for EALC
Highly Desirable (one or more of the following):
- Schools / Local Authority expertise (e.g. SEND, safeguarding, leadership)
- Fundraising or income generation experience
Legal expertise (charity law, governance, compliance) - Human Resources expertise (workforce, culture, people management)
- Strong connection to the Bradford District
We welcome applicants from all sectors including education, health, voluntary and community organisations, business, and public services.
Time Commitment
- 6–8 Board meetings per year
- Occasional involvement in working groups
- Preparation time for meetings and papers
- Attendance at key events where possible
This is a voluntary role, with reasonable expenses reimbursed.
