Education Alliance for Life Chances

Our Vision & Purpose

A Bold Ambition for Bradford’s Children

At the Education Alliance for Life Chances (EALC), our vision and purpose guide everything we do – from long-term strategy to local, on-the-ground action. We’re here to reduce childhood inequalities in Bradford and improve outcomes for the next generation.

Our partnership with CAER (the Centre for Applied Education Research) allows us to test and pilot cutting-edge interventions in schools, developed by Bradford’s research community. With EALC’s leadership, Bradford can lead the way in innovative scientific solutions that can be scaled to other areas across the UK.

Our Vision

For every child in Bradford to have good life chances.

This bold vision drives EALC’s 20-year commitment to tackling childhood inequality. We believe that where a child grows up should never determine how far they can go in life. By connecting schools with the wider system of support – from healthcare to housing – we aim to give every child a better start.

Our Purpose

To tackle childhood inequalities by connecting key public and voluntary sector organisations with all Bradford schools.

EALC brings the system together – education, health, local services and community organisations – to work in unison for better outcomes. As a backbone organisation, we enable coordinated, evidence-led action where it’s needed most.

Our Collective Impact

At EALC, we believe the only way to create lasting change is to work together – across sectors, organisations, and communities. That’s why we follow the Collective Impact model: a structured, evidence-based approach to collaboration that delivers measurable outcomes for children and families.

What does that mean in practice?

We bring people together under a shared purpose, using connected data and common goals to align their efforts. Our role is to coordinate, support, and connect – making sure the system works as one.

The five principles of Collective Impact:

  1. A common agenda – shared goals and priorities for improving children’s life chances
  2. Shared measurement – consistent data to track impact across all partners
  3. Mutually reinforcing activities – different organisations contributing in aligned ways
  4. Continuous communication – open, regular, and trusting collaboration
  5. A backbone organisation – EALC coordinates, holds the vision, and drives the work
EALC Collective Impact

“We have all the pieces of the jigsaw – EALC brings them together.”
