About the EDSP Training
This training introduces staff to the Electronic Developmental Support Passport (EDSP), a school-based tool for identifying and supporting the needs of children and young people. The session walks staff through what the EDSP is, how it was created, and how it fits into everyday classroom practice.
Participants will learn how the EDSP highlights children who may benefit from additional support, from light-touch classroom adjustments through to more targeted interventions, and how it helps schools bring together the perspectives of both staff and parents/carers to spot needs that might otherwise be masked. The training also covers how the tool supports high-quality teaching by giving staff a practical framework for tailoring their approach to individual children, and how it tracks a child’s progress over time.
Importantly, the training is clear on what the EDSP does not do: it does not classify a child as neurodiverse or neurodivergent, does not determine SEN register status, and does not replace formal diagnosis. Staff will come away understanding the EDSP as a needs-led, evidence-based support tool, not a clinical or diagnostic instrument.
By the end of the session, staff will be confident setting up the EDSP, running assessment sessions, and using the results to inform day-to-day teaching and support planning.
